Vicars Cross is a large suburban area situated on the east side of Chester, in Cheshire, England. At the 2001 Census the area had a population of 5,663.CommunityThe local primary school in Vicars Cross is Oldfield Primary which is situated in Green Lane. Most of the local children go on to attend Christleton High School.In Vicars Cross there is a United Reformed Church, an authority controlled library in Green Lane, a County Youth Centre and a Scout hut (both in Thackeray Drive) and The Centurion pub. There are also many community groups including the Women's Guild and Women's Institute, a parent and toddler group, scouts; brownies; a football club (Vicars Cross Dynamos) and Chester Rugby Union Football Club, part of which is located in Piper's Ash and Guilden Sutton. In the late 1990s Vicars Cross gave birth to the seminal punk band Ca$ino (originally called Ca$ino-a-go-go), and in turn the VXHC (Vicars Cross Hardcore) movement. CaSino's self released "Attack of Bullethead" E.P is still revered to this day. 'VX's favourite sons' disbanded in 2002 due to musical differences. Today the VXHC scene survives with a small number of local bands performing around the northwest, most prominently led by Face of Christ.To this day members of the VXHC movement hold celebrations on 5 October due to the Roman numerals for 5 and 10 being prominent in the cultureGovernanceParish CouncilGreat Boughton Parish Council comprises the North and South Wards.
