Bob Williams formed Silverstone Buggy Club (SBC) around 30 years ago.
The original racing venue was a back garden in Silverstone village. As the club expanded and more and more people got into Model Car Racing the club outgrew the back garden in Silverstone Village and was forced to move to a new larger venue.
The sports hall at Sponne School in Towcester became the new home for Silverstone Buggy Club for the next few years.
Several years later the club started up outdoor racing once again. The new outdoor venue was Towcester Football Club. Moving to this venue gave the club a chance to grow even larger and attract many new racers from all over the country.
Due to increasing vandalism at the Football Club site SBC were forced to move to a new venue at Potterspury Lodge School on the A5 just outside Towcester.
1999/2000 Silverstone Buggy Club changed its name to Silverstone Radio Controlled Model Car Club (SRCMCC) to reflect the true nature of all the classes that race in the club.
At the end of April 2002 SRCMCC were unfortunate victims of new government legislation which meant we lost the use of the sports hall and gymnasium at Potterspury Lodge School.
After some weeks of searching we found a new home at Silverstone Recreation Sports and Social Club.
After running for many years indoors at the SRA the club members decided they wanted to race outdoors in the summer months, but more importantly offroad buggys, which is where we are today, after 3-4 years in the making SRCMCC is proud to boast a fully astro turfed track catering for beginners and national drivers.
In 2011 the club decided to part ways with the SRA in Silverstone village due to access issues to the track. A new committee was formed and we came across the Pitsford Centre at Moulton College which is now the home of SRCMCC, running indoors on a astro turfed track. The club has grown so much over the last few years it is now attracting drivers from all over the country for club night racing.
