Additional information

Registration
It is a requirement of the Children Act 1989 that providers of day care for children under the age of eight are registered. Monument Place Nursery and Out of School Club is registered with OFSTED to provide care for a total of 59 children under the age of eight, at any one time in the nursery and 24 children in the out of school and holiday club.

Opening hours
The nursery is open Monday to Friday between 7:30am and 6:00pm. The nursery is closed at weekends and on UK public holidays. The Out of School Club is open before and after school every school day and throughout the day Monday to Friday during school holidays (except public holidays).

Children with special needs
Monument Place Nursery and Out of School Club is committed to a policy of inclusion. We aim to provide equality of access and opportunity to all children. Parents of children who have particular needs are welcome to discuss such needs with the manager. Parents are encouraged to read our Special Needs Policy

Admissions policy
We are committed to equality of access and opportunity, nursery places and out of school club places are allocated to children regardless of gender, ethnicity or culture. Our ability to accommodate new admissions is governed by the availability of a place within the appropriate childcare room and us meeting the appropriate adult/child ratio for the child’s age. Should a place be available in the appropriate room it will be allocated in order of date of application. The nursery operates a minimum booking of two sessions per week. Before starting nursery it is usual for children to have settling in sessions. The nature, length and number of such sessions is dependent on the need of the individual child. The nursery manager will discuss this with parents. Children are admitted to nursery following an induction period agreed by the child’s parents/primary carer and nursery staff. This is flexible and will depend upon a child’s individual needs.

Staffing
Our staff are well qualified and trained to a high standard. All of our staff undergo regular and continual training in various areas, such as Food Hygiene and First Aid as well as professional qualifications as part of their continual professional development. This training includes National Vocational Qualifications in Children’s Care, Learning and Development. Some staff undertake training in customer service and management. In addition other training is undertaken based on specific nursery or individual staff needs and interest. The normal staff:child ratios within which we work are:

0 – 2 years 1:3
2 – 3 years 1:4
3 years plus 1:8

The Nursery Manager is Tracey Roberts and the Deputy Manager is Gill Coles.

Routines
Children’s routines are guided by their needs and the wishes of their parents. Through discussion with parents we compile an individual care plan for babies joining the nursery. And through detailed and careful discussion with parents we find out as much as possible about the needs and routines of the children and use this to guide their care at nursery. Care plans are updated as necessary. We aim to ensure that all children in our setting are safe and secure and enjoy being in our care as much as we enjoy taking care of them.

Discipline
Discipline is gentle but firm encouraging children to respect each other. Treating children with respect models high expectations of their behaviour. We are a happy nursery.

Activities
Activities are planned to meet the developmental needs of children. Activities are varied and staff are actively involved in playing and interacting with the children. When you look around the nursery you are welcome to look at the activity planning for each age group.

Meals
A healthy eating policy operates in our nursery where we aim to provide nutritional snacks and home cooked meals throughout the day. Water and milk is provided during the day to encourage healthy choices. Our menu follows a 4 weekly timetable which has been put together with the assistance of a dietary expert. Children eat with their eyes and therefore independent choice is encouraged where possible.

Facilities
Monument Place Nursery and Out of School Club is located in a lovely position on the edge of the village of Farndon. The grounds are spacious with ample off road parking for parents and there are 3 separate fenced in play areas offering tarmac, grass and safety surfacing. The building is single storey with separate spacious rooms for babies, younger toddlers, older toddlers, pre-school and out of school club. We have cameras in each room to monitor children so parents can watch from afar to ensure their children are settled and happy.

Registration and collection of children
When children arrive a nursery, their time of arrival is recorded on the room register. If children are to be collected by someone other than the parent/primary carer we require authorisation from the parent/primary carer. When children are collected, information about their day will be shared with parents/primary carers in a number of ways such as baby diaries, notice boards and discussion with key workers and other staff.

Complaints
We very much hope that parents will not have any cause for complaint about the nursery or the provision for their child.

However, if any parent does have cause for complaint they should in the first instance take it up with the child's key worker or a senior member of staff. If the issue remains unresolved then the manager should be contacted.

The manager will then investigate the complaint and report back to the parent within five days. In the event that the complaint cannot be fully investigated within the five days for any reason, the manager will advise the parent of this and agree a reasonable timescale for a response depending on the circumstances.

If the matter cannot be resolved to their satisfaction, parents have the right to raise the matter with Registered Person.

If the matter remains unresolved after being referred to the Registered Person parents have the right to raise the matter with Ofsted at the following address:

Ofsted National Business Unit,
Royal Exchange Building
St Anne’s Square,
Manchester M2 7LA.

Telephone 08456 404040

Nursery policies
We have a comprehensive policy file covering all aspects of procedure and nursery routine. Parents are encouraged to read these policies.
