John Jepson (Master Mason), the founder of Jepson Cornerstone Ltd, studied stone masonry for his apprenticeship at The Great Titchfield Street Masonry College in London from 1973 to 1977, working for the then Department of the Environment, later to be known as English Heritage. There he obtained his City & Guilds and Advanced City & Guilds in Stone Masonry as a qualified banker/mason/fixer.

Afterwards, he continued to work for the D.O.E for a further 3 years working on historic monuments throughout the country.

Mr. Jepson then formed his own stone restoration company, starting with small stone contracts and after some time obtaining a good reputation for neatness and craftsmanship. Larger contracts were obtained, such as Hardwick Old Hall for English Heritage, overseeing works and advising at Tickhill Castle for the Duchy of Lancaster, stone restoration of the Tower at the Catholic Cathedral in Sheffield, the south transept Sheffield Anglican Cathedral, maintenance work at Connisbrough Castle in Yorkshire, and numerous churches and private homes.

■We try to source all of our stone from the area of the project being undertaken if possible due to worked quarries.

■Match all tool finishes to look in character and blend into old stone work.

■Use lime mortars where applicable.

■All our pointing is done to the highest of English Heritage standards.

■When cleaning we use only water and mild chemical methods (we are totally opposed to sand blasting).

■Finally, we love to work with customers, architects, and conservation officers who know good stone work from bad stone work and share a love of proper conservation and restoration works by qualified masons, sadly lacking on some projects today.
